NJWCS Watercolor Workshop
For the first time in a number of years, the NJWCS is reinstating its popular workshop series.
The first offers an opportunity to study with one of our best known members. A two-day, weekend plein air workshop with Marge Chavooshian has been scheduled for May 31 & June 1, 2008 in the Essex County area. Hold this weekend. Flyers with all details will be mailed in March or call Ann Taylor at 973-239-6074 or e-mail to actrtist@comcast.net.

The Annual NJWCS Member's Meeting was held again this year at the Deal Golf and Country Club's beautiful setting in Deal, NJ. on Saturday, May 17th. With great pleasure our newly Elected Members were introduced and congratulated as they received their membership certificates. Everybody's appetite was satisfied with the delicious choice of entrees, and the occasion provided a chance to socialize and meet new friends. Thank you to all who helped in making this popular event a great success.

At the Executive Board meeting on April 12th, seven people were elected full member status with the New Jersey Water Color Society. This year's newly elected members were; William Dynan, Vicki Bloye Gainsburg, Jinnie May, Marigene Misinay, Marie Natale, Edward Rabinowitz and Alice Warshaw. I would like to extend my congratulations to all and to urge that they're participation benefits both them and our great organization in making it function. I'm also very pleased to have Ann Taylor and Theresa Troise Heidel join with us on the Executive Board. Ann will be our new 1st Vice President and Exhibition Chairperson and Theresa our new 2nd Vice President.

The Annual Associate Show will be held at the Morris county Library from June 30th - July 31st. Opening reception will be held July 12th, 2:00 - 4:00. This show is popular with the library and I encourage all our associates to enter.

This year's Annual Elected Members show was held at the guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, NJ. May 3rd - May 29th. The reception was held on May 17th in conjunction with our Annual Meeting and luncheon. Top honors go to Dolores Ziegler with all the award winners shown in our Spring/Summer 2008 newsletter. Thank you to Susanna Anastasia, Margaret Crawford, Roberta Carter Clark and all those who helped in making this a successful and well received exhibit.

The 66th Open Juried show will be back to the Ridgewood Art Institute this year. Receiving is October 4th with the show opening October 11th until October 31st. More information can be found on the exhibition page. You are encouraged to fill out the Volunteer Helper form and return it to show chairperson Ann Taylor. Your participation greatly helps your society's Open Show to be a success.

Gregory Bruno, AWS won the David Wu and Elsie Jeck-Key Memorial Award at the Allied Artist of America 94th Annual Exhibition in December (National Arts Club, NYC), was juried into the 2008 American Watercolor Society Open Juried Show, and was an invited juror of awards of the Essex Watercolor Club 75th Anniversary Member Exhibit, September .


Gay Billich's painting "The Balcony", was accepted into the Perkins Center for the Arts Juried Watercolor Exhibition in Moorestown, NJ and received a Jurors Award for Artistic Excellence. She received Third Place in Abstracts in the Tewksbury Art Show. Gay received full membership status with the Garden State Watercolor Society after being juried into the open juried show for the third time. And her work was included the 111th Annual Exhibition of the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club at the National Arts Club, NYC.


Roberta Carter Clark was featured 12 of her portraits in the May 2008 issue of American Artist Magazine.


Lisa Grob's work has been selected to appear in the 2008 National Watercolor Society All Member Exhibit: VIVA Gallery, Sherman Oaks, California.


Michalyn Tarantino is presenting her watercolors at The Monmouth Museum (Brooksdale Community College, Lincroft), Emerging Artists Series from April 25- May 25. She will give a Gallery Talk on Wednesday May 14 7-8 PM.


Dolores Ziegler, AWS took First Place in "State Show" at the Ocean County Artist's Guild, a Third Place in the Art Center of Southern NJ (Marlton, NJ). She will be doing a demonstration and workshop for Willingboro Art Assn, was accepted into the Burlington County Art AssociationÑMt Hollow Show and had a collage angel in "Wings" Show at Smithville, NJ.


Beverly Golembeski had two paintings accepted into the National PaintAmerica Top100 Exhibition and one painting juried into the Paint-America MiniTop50. Both these exhibits can be viewed on the Paint America website, at www.PaintAmerica.org. They will be part of a traveling gallery exhibition over this coming year. She also received the WaterMark Gallery Award at the Tuckerton Seaport Art Show held at the Lighthouse Gallery, Tuckerton Seaport, Tuckerton.


Jinnie May received Best in Shows from the Essex Watercolor Club and Roxbury Art Associations.


Lois Sanders received Honorable Mention at the St. Mark's Juried Art Show and Best in Watercolor at the Gaelen Juried Art Show, JCC MetroWest (Whippany), open till June 17.


Mark de Mos is serving the Allied Artist of America board as the digital image submissions for their juried show. He received the Anne H. Hanifan Memorial Award, Skylands Art Show (Newton), and Awards of Excellence from Essex Watercolor Club and Roxbury Art Association.


Elsa Herrmann was awarded First Place in Professional Pastels in the Ocean County Senior Citizen Show, at the Ocean County Artists' Guild, Island Heights. She was accepted into the 21st Annual Juried Art Exhibit of the Ocean County Artists' Guild, as well as the 8th Annual Juried Art Show at the Bernardsville Public Library. She received a first place Blue Ribbon in Professional Watercolors at the Laurelton Art Society's Spring Art Festival in Herbertsville.


Christina Sanes was juried into the following shows: Monmouth Festival of the Arts 2008, Ocean County Art Guild Annual Show, Tuckerton Seaport Museum Exhibit, and the Jersey Shore Juried Art Show.


Tom Wilczewski has won First Place for Watercolor in the Art Society of Monmouth County's Ruth Crouwn Memorial Art Show: Middletown Township Public Library April 2008. Tom was also invited by the William Penn Foundation to show a watercolor in their Philadelphia art exhibit. Tom had a one person exhibit at the Little Silver Boro Hall.


SANDY MEZINIS won Best in Show /Founders's Award at the Florida Keys Watercolor Society's 26th annual exhibition and received an award of excellence at the 2008 Garden State Watercolor Society's annual members exhibition at the Princeton Day School.


Hudson Valley Art Associations 76th Annual Exhibition at the National Arts Club in New York awarded Anthony Ventura with the Mrs. John Newington Award for Excellence 9Best in Watercolor), Joel Popadics with the Edgar Whitney Memorial Award (3rd), James Toogood with Joseph Kranansky Memorial Award (6th), Joan Ross with John Loughlin Memorial Award for Landscape of Seascape (7th). Also Juried into the exhibit Winnie O'Dougherty, Betty Stroppel, Mark de Mos, Katherine Gray, Ken Hamilton, Mel Stabin and Michael Tiscia, plus Arthur Barbour in Memorium.


Essex Watercolor Color Club's Winter Members Show in February award winners included NJWCS members, Best in Show winner Betty Stropel, Awards of Excellence for Mark de Mos and Virginia May (Associate Members), Awards of Merit for members Nat Lewis, AWS, Ann Taylor and Joan Ross as well as associate members Inese Houlis, Debbie Fryer and Vicki Gainsburg. Debbie Fryer is the current president of the Essex Watercolor Çolor Club and the Judge was NJWCS member, Tom Valenti, AWS.
