About the Jurors:

Rosalind Oesterele graduated from Skidmore College with a major in art and continued her education at Columbia University, studying drawing and painting. She also attended the Art Student's League and subsequent workshops with Ed Whitney, Claude Croney, Don Andrews and other well known watercolorists. Her knowledge and appreciation of nature and particulary wildflowers continues to be the focus of her work. In her own words, she says, "The most exciting part of painting is the creative process itself - wathcing the paper in front of me develop from an idea to an image using color, texture, design and interpretation of subject matter. Sometimes I may have a very well defined goal in mind, while at other times the result may be an unexpected surprise! This is the fun and excitement of creating! Each painting truly becomes an adventure of discovery. Painting has always been an important and satisfying part of my life - for which I feel most fortunate...it is indeed a gift."

Her work has won numerous awards and she is a juried member of the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and a signature member of the American Watercolor Society.

Donald W. Patterson was born in Philadelphia and graduated from The Philadelphia Museum School of Art, now called The University of the Arts, majoring in illustration. Since serving as a Training Aids artist in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he freelanced as an illustrator/designer, supporting himself and his family as Product Design Manager for The Franklin Mint from 1977 to 1985. When his three sons were grwon and educated he started painting on a regular schedule with only one goal in mind - to be himself. In his own words he says, "I never worry about the critics or how other artists work, I only paint what really interests and excites me, and develop my own solutions and methods to accomplish my desired results." This was his breakthrough. Over the past 23 years his watercolors have been exhibited nationally and internationally and have won him over 100 awards. He is now a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, and both the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Watercolor Societies.

His work has been featured in scroes of articles for art magazines and books, and in the eyar 2000 he authored his own book for North Light Publishers, called Creating Watercolor Landscapes Using Photographs, in which he describes in depth how to correctly and creatively use the camera as a tool in the creation of one's art.

The Jurors Statements

This show had so many varied candidates fro prizes that we had great difficulty choosing one painting over another. The quality was excellent with a wide range of techniques and subject matter. All the artists should be proud of the excellent level of work submitted and juried into this exhibition.
