THE 2005 AWARD WINNERS
About the Jurors:
Jada Rowland was born
in New York and raised in a family of artists. From childhood
on Jada was a successful actress on Broadway and television.
She is most remembered for her 20 years on "The Secret
Storm" as Amy and 8 years on "The Doctors"
as Carolee. With a painter/illustrator grandfather and artist/writer
parents to inspire her, Jada started drawing and writing as
soon as she could hold a pencil. Finally, in 1983, tired of
acting, she decided to fulfill a lifelong desire to become
a professional atist and writer. Three of her numerous books
are "Miss Tizzie", published by Simon and Schuster,
"The Statue of Liberty" from Random House and 'Raising
the Roof", published by Habitat for Humanity. Her paintings
have been shown in exhibitions from the Salmungundi Club in
New York to the Royal Insititute of Watercolor in London and
many places in between. Jada is a signature member of the
American Watercolor Society and has won awards there and from
Catharine Lrillard Wolfe, Adirondacks National Exhibition
of American Watercolors, Allied Artists and many other groups.
Her work has been featured in Best of Watercolor, American
Artist, The Artist's Magazine and International Artist, among
others.

in India and cam eto the United States for graduate studies

as a professional artist. He studied art in India and in this
country at Syracuse University and the School of Visual Arts
at Long Island University where he earned a Master of Fine
Arts degree with a major in painting. Since completing his
academic studies Lalit has concentrated on watercolor and
over the years he has worked with some of the very best including
Rex Brandt, Robert Hallet, Carlton Plummer, Christopher Schink,
Frank Webb, Robert E. Wood and Milford Zornes. His work has
been exhibited extensively in national shows including the
American Watercolor Society, National Academy of Design, and
the National Watercolor Society and has gained him 75 awards
from these and many other groups. Currently a member of the
Salmungundi Club, Allied Artists, American Artists Professional
League, National Watercolor Society, and others, he is a Dolphin
Fellow of the American Watercolor Society. You can see Lalit's
work in the April 2005 issue of Watercolor Magic Magazine.
The Jurors Statements
Jada Rowland: Very nice
strong show! We considered composition, values, paint handling,
subject matter, originality and just plain overall appeal.
We looked up close and from far away, and finally made those
difficult choices. Thank you for the opportunity to see your
communication.
Lalit K. Masih: As always,
a fine collection of watercolors. The show demonstrated not
only quality, but a significant range of styles and motifs.
In each category there were excellent examples of all the
styles, and after much deliberation, we chose paintings that
we felt were well designed and executed.
